Our church (Thomas Tabernacle) has been in existence since 1972. It was founded by the late (and great) Herman T. Lewis. Youth-N-Action was founded in 1991 by Patricia Tillman and really took off under the leadership of our current pastor, Edward Rollins Sr. He led Youth-N-Action up until last year, when he was installed as our Senior Pastor.
Our new (and super awesome) fearless leader is Evangelist Tyleet Sampson. She was one of the founding youths for this program, and she has been the Director of Youth Education for over 10 years. Her biggest event every year is Vacation Bible School. Attendance for VBS usually maxes out around 125 nightly, and it’s held for an entire week at our church. You may have even driven by and seen our big tent during the summer!
We work hard all year to make church fun for kids of all ages. It’s a task we hold dear, because we were once those kids who came to Youth-N-Action to have fun at church.
This year, we have a lot of great events coming down the pike. Our big events this year are VBS; our annual Youth Conference in August that caters specifically to empowering and educating babies, school-aged children, adolescents, and young adults, through music, interaction, and teaching; and we are going to the Great Wolf Lodge as a back-to-school treat. We have a lot of other great events planned, as well.
We fundraise throughout the year by hosting concerts, car washes at our church (you’ve probably seen our Big Purple Bus!), kinkling sales (started by our former pastor, the late and great Roger E. Rollins), dinner buffets, and a ton of other things – but we could REALLY use your help!
